Saints Sweep Doubleheader To Take Series Over HPU

WAIPAHU, Hawaii – Needing to take both ends of the doubleheader to take the five-game series over Hawaii Pacific, the Saints pulled it off with 9-2 and 5-2 results on Sunday night.

Reid Little and the Saints struck first in the opening frame with a two-out two RBI double to straight away, scoring both Cody Chavis, and Griffin Williams. Dakota Hill proceeded to drive in Little to make it a 3-0 ball game right away.

Hawaii Pacific scored the next three runs of the game across three innings to tie the game up at 3-3 heading to the sixth. Saint Martin's capitalized on a fielding error by the Sharks in the sixth to take back the lead at 5-3.

Hawaii Pacific scored their final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth before the Saints broke open the score in the eighth. RBIs from Renaud, Little, and Hill stretch the lead out to 8-4, enough for Ryan Ancheta to close down the win.

The lefty Ancheta pitched the final 4.2 shutout innings, allowing only two hits, and picked up the win. Finnley Butler got the start on the mound, throwing 4.1 innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits and two strikeouts.

It was the Saints who got on the board first in the series finale, on a sac fly from Renaud in the third to drive home McNally. Hawaii Pacific answered right back in the bottom of the frame with a run of their own.

In the fourth, both sides added a run again, with the Saints scoring on a fielder's choice from Cody Isa. For the third straight inning in the fifth, the Saints added a run, this time on a dropped third strike that allowed McNally to score on the wild pitch. Saint Martin's put two insurance runs up in the seventh on another RBI double from Little, scoring two more.

Cole Hatton started the first innings, punching out six while just giving up a run on one lone hit. Ryan Driscoll pitched the next two innings, followed by Aaron Nease's 1.1 shutout innings, and Zach Alcos getting the save on the final two outs.

The Saints return to action on Saturday, March 5 at Oregon Tech to start a four-game series with the Owls.
