2/22/2022 4:45:00 PM

PLEASANTON, Calif. – Despite a strong finish in the second round, the Saints were unable to capture the momentum in the final round of the Bay Area Invitational on Tuesday.

COMPLETE RESULTS

After leading the Saints in the opening day, Tyler Fitchett picked up right where he left off. His third-round score of 76 was best on the team, and Fitchett's total score of 220 placed him tied for 12th overall in a field of 79 golfers. He began the day with a birdie, his first of four on the day, three of which came on the back nine.

Max Turnquist (76-72-79-227) finished tied for 36th overall and second on the team, wrapping up the tournament with a 79.

Dennis Geissler (79-75-77-231), and Jordan Terada (75-77-79-231) tied for third on the team, and on the leaderboard at 44th. Carter Sheets (83-83-79-245) saw the largest improvement of any Saint, dropping four strokes off his game, and closed out the scorecard for Saint Martin's.

"Honestly, a very disappointing final round," said head coach Kevin Bishop. "We just seemed to lack energy and excitement today from both a mental and physically standpoint. We will work on both, and be better equipped for the endurance the next tournament."

Saint Martin's (301-297-311-909) tied for ninth in the crowded field along with Stanislaus State. Cal State San Marcos (864) took the top overall spot on the team leaderboard, with Matt Pennington of San Marcos winning the tournament individually at eight-under par 208.

Saint Martin's returns to action on March 7 at the Northwest Nazarene Nighthawk Invitational, hosted in Livermore, California at the Poppy Ridge golf course.
