CHICO, Calif. – Tied up at 3-3 heading to the bottom of the fifth, #25 Chico State caught fire down the stretch, knocking off the Saints 14-3 on Sunday.
Aaron Renaud got the offense going for the Saints (0-4) with his first home run of the year in the bottom of the first inning. Chico State (4-0) answered back with a run in the second inning to tie the game up.
In the top of the fourth,
Dakota Hill led off with a hit-by-pitch, followed by catcher
Chayson Dulatre who reached on a fielder's choice with a throwing error that allowed Hill to advance to second.
Drew Forgione set up the inning with a sac bunt to put the two runners in scoring position with just one out. The nine-hole hitter,
Ryne Oshiro came through with a single to center, giving the Saints a 3-1 lead.
However, the lead did not last through the fourth as Chico State tied it up with two runs, and the Wildcats took their first lead in the fifth with another two runs.
Chico State broke open the ballgame late with an eight-run eighth inning, and finished with a 14-3 victory.
Griffin Williams collected three hits at the plate, along with Renaud, and Oshiro ending with multi-hit days. The Saints went for 11 hits as a team.
Finnley Butler pitched the opening four innings, allowing three runs, two earned on six hits with two strikeouts.
Brock Wrolstad went 2.1 innings, and
Zach Alcos and
Kameron Richards pitched the final 1.2 innings.
