LACEY, Wash. – Lights out pitching, combined with clutch hits, and two game-changing home runs wrapped up the Saints' 8-0 wins over Bushnell to extend their win streak to four.
Saint Martin's (8-8) quickly jumped on the Beacons (6-11) with an RBI from
Devyn Connolly, bringing home
Britney Patrick. In the third, the Saints added another run on an RBI single from
Destiny Conerly.
However, the Saints quickly opened up the game in the fourth, scoring three runs off RBI hits from
Olivia Schmidt and
Malia Pinder, and an error. The offense continued in the sixth as
Shay Lopes ripped a two RBI triple to right, setting up Pinder for the game-winning RBI single to right.
Tia Ridings picked up the win after going four innings, allowing only one hit, and striking out seven batters. The lefty struck out the side in both the first and third inning.
Chloe Leverington closed out the final two innings on one hit, with two strikeouts of her own.
It was a scoreless game to begin the second end of the doubleheader until the third inning. Lopes doubled to left center, scoring Connolly from first to put the Saints on the board.
But the damage was dealt in the fourth, as the Saints piled on seven runs. Schmidt got it started with a three-run blast, her second of the season, to make it a 4-0 ball game. Connolly followed up with a two-run shot to left to break open the 7-0 lead. After the Saints loaded the bases again, a wild pitch allowed the final run to score.
Abby Runyon picked up the win after going four innings, allowing only two hits, and three strikeouts.
Kylie Parsons pitched the final inning, recording one strikeout to seal the doubleheader sweep.
The Saints and the Beacons square off tomorrow at noon for the series finale doubleheader. Live stats and video of the games will be available on smusaints.com.
