Strong Finish Lifts Saints To Top Ten Finish At NNU Invitational

LIVERMORE, Calif. – Dropping 11 strokes off their game, led by Max Turnquist's one-under round, the Saints jumped up to a 10th place finish at the Northwest Nazarene Invitational on Tuesday.

Turnquist saw the largest improvement of any Saint golfer, going from an 80 to 71. He began the day even par on the front nine with a birdie on the final hole. He started the back nine with another birdie and went one-under with a third birdie on the 14th hole.
 
Dennis Geissler (73-76-149) placed tied for 22nd overall in the field, shooting four-over with two birdies in the final round. Tyler Fitchett (76-75-151) tied with Turnquist overall, finishing the day strong by playing one-under par on the back nine.
 
Ethan Finau (82-77-159) also saw a strong improvement, shooting two birdies on the day, and playing even par on the final nine. Jordan Terada (81-83-164) closed out the scorecard, hitting par on 12 holes.
 
"We played much better today," said head coach Kevin Bishop. Nice to move up a couple of places and saw some good things with Finau, and a solid round from Max (Turnquist) to get him going this spring."
 
Saint Martin's as a team shot 310-299-609 to climb into the top 10 on the team leaderboard, beating out 28th ranked Cal State San Marcos by seven strokes. Cal State East Bay won the tournament with a score of 583, and Keith Okada from Hawaii Pacific won the event at six-under par 138.
 
The Saints return to action at the Harry Stanislaus Invitational in Turlock, California on March 28-29.
