BELLEVUE, Wash. – Two massive fourth innings accounted for 13 of the Saints' 19 runs as Saint Martin's swept Northwest 8-3 and 11-3 on Wednesday night.
In the opener,
Kaleena Yra continued her hot streak, dripping an RBI double to center to put Saint Martin's on top. Later in the fourth, the Saints began the six-run inning with two two-run blasts from
Devyn Connolly and
Olivia Schmidt. Later an error allowed
Natalie Zender to score to make it 7-0. A
Jaeden Ells RBI infield single in the fifth put the final run on the board for the Saints in the 8-3 game.
Tia Ridings went the first four innings, allowing zero hits, one run, and seven punchouts before
Chloe Leverington, and
Shaye Pinner closed out the final three innings.
Saint Martin's quickly struck again in the second game, scoring two runs in the opening frame on a wild pitch, and a
Destiny Conerly RBI double. After Northwest tied up the game in the bottom of the first, a two-RBI double from Zender in the second put SMU on top again.
Déjà vu occurred in the second game as the Saints erupted for another large fourth inning, this time a seven-run inning. RBIs from Conerly, Schmidt, Zender, and
Malia Pinder made up the majority of the run support as Saint Martin's sprinted out an 11-2 lead, and eventually wrapped up the 11-3 win.
Abbey Runyon got the start, going three innings, allowing two runs on two hits, and two strikeouts.
Kylie Parsons pitched the final two innings, and finished with three strikeouts.
The Saints return home to face Bushnell to start a four-game series on Saturday, with first pitch scheduled for noon. Live stats and video of the game will be available on smusaints.com.
