Turnquist Sits In Second After First Day Of GNAC Championships

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho – With the pressure on at the GNAC Championships, Max Turnquist proved ready for the challenge, finishing second at three-under par after the first day of action.

Turnquist (71-68-139) only got better as the day went, going from one-over on his first nine holes, to one-under par on the back nine. With three birdies in the first round, Turnquist went out and played three-under par on the second round. With another four birdies and just one bogey on his second 18-holes, Turnquist finished second overall on the leadboard, seven strokes back of the leader.
 
Dennis Geissler (73-73-146), and Tyler Fitchett (73-74-147) finished back-to-back on the Saints' scorecard. The two combined for nine birdies, and an eagle from Fitchett on the 11th hole in his second round.
 
Carter Sheets (78-72-150) made history on the course, hitting a hole-in-one on the sixth hole in his second round, a par three from 115 yards. Sheets played just one-over par in the second round, finishing with the second-best score for the Saints in the round.
 
Ethan Finau (82-75-157) found his stroke on his second attempt of the course, playing just four-over par with two birdies.
 
As a team, Saint Martin's placed third in the leaderboard at a total score of 582, just five strokes of Simon Fraser in second. The third and final round of the tournament will take place tomorrow morning, Tuesday, April 19 with live stats available on smusaints.com.
