MONMOUTH, Ore. – Saint Martin's offense was unable to crack the pitching of Western Oregon, falling 2-1, and 8-0, to close out the weekend series.
Saint Martin's scored the opening run of the day in the first inning, scoring
Ryne Oshiro on a fielder's choice. However, the Saints were unable to add to that lead throughout the game.
Western Oregon managed to finally get on the board in the fourth with an RBI double, and took the lead later on a bases-loaded hit by pitch.
Troy McCormick got the start for the Saints, going four innings while allowing only two runs on three hits with five strikeouts.
Aaron Nease and
Brock Wrolstad combined to throw the final four innings, giving up no hits, and striking out three.
In the second game,
Hunter Kosmider recorded the one hit for the Saints as Western Oregon used two runs in the third, and three in both the fifth and sixth to clinch the series winner.
Finnley Butler went four innings to start the game before
Cole Hatton, and
Ryan Driscoll closed out the game out of the pen.
Saint Martin's gets the next weekend off before returning home on April 14 and 15 to host Northwest Nazarene in a four-game series.
