Saints Walk-Off Central Washington Not Once But Twice

LACEY, Wash. – Friday, April 29 will go down as one of the greatest days in Saints' baseball history, featuring two thrilling comeback walk-off victories over Central Washington 6-5, and 12-11.

In the opener, Central Washington took multiple leads in the game, scoring first in the third, and taking a 3-2 lead in the sixth. Saint Martin's responded back in the eighth inning when Bryant Nakagawa singled to right center, scoring two and putting the Saints on top 4-3.

However, the Saints were unable to close the door in the ninth, giving up two runs, but setting up the potential for a walk-off.

Reid Little began the inning with a single through the left side, putting the go-ahead run at the plate. After a strikeout, Austin Schaler walked, and Hunter Kosmider was hit-by-pitch to load the bases. Ryne Oshiro stepped up and crushed a ball to right field, scoring two and sending the Saints' bench into a frenzy, storming the field for the 6-5 walk-off victory.

In the second game, Central Washington jumped on the Saints with an eight-run third inning to take a 10-2 lead. It looked like the game was out of reach, but the Saints found life fifth.

Three straight doubles began the inning, followed by RBI single from Jonathan Shimabukuro accounted for the first three runs. Drew Forgione brought home Michael Yamaguchi with a sac fly, and Oshiro capped off the inning with a two RBI triple to center. Within an inning, the Saints cut the eight-run lead down to just two.

After a solo shot for Central Washington in the sixth, Cody Chavis answered right back with a solo shot in the sixth to make it 11-9 heading to the seventh. Needing two runs to stay alive, the inning set up for Aaron Renaud with the bases loaded with one out. The lefty pulled a shot through the right side, scoring two and the Saints had completed the comeback, tying the game at 11-11, and sending it to extra innings.

After a quiet top of the eighth, Yamaguchi lead off the frame with a single through the left side. A passed ball and wild pitch put the winning run just 90-feet away with one out. Schaler stepped to the plate, and finished off the game with a single, scoring Alohi Arrechi and sending the Saints home with two walk-off victories on the day.

The series finale is scheduled for tomorrow but rain in the forecast could delay the games to Sunday. Live updates will be posted on smusaints.com.
