LACEY, Wash. – On a day where the Saints honored 15 seniors, Saint Martin's nearly took the doubleheader, splitting the day with eventual GNAC Champions Western Oregon on Saturday.
In the opener, Aaron Renuad provided most of the run support, scoring driving in four runs, most of which came on his three-run home to right center in the second inning.
Bryant Nakagawa, and
Ty Matsunami each collected RBI hits to power the Saints to a 6-4 victory.
Justice Yamashita earned the victory, going five innings, allowing four runs on three hits with three strikeouts.
Troy McCormick earned the save by going the final four innings, allowing just two hits, no runs on one punchout.
Saint Martin's quickly jumped on Western Oregon in the second game, scoring three runs in the first inning. RBI hits from
Ryne Oshiro,
Cody Chavis, and Jonny Shimabukuro highlighted the first frame.
Despite the lead, Western Oregon tied the game in the fifth, and forced extra innings. It wasn't until the ninth that the Wolves managed to break the tie with a bases clearing double, scoring three runs.
Saint Martin's scored one in the bottom of the ninth, and brought the game-winning run to the plate but left the bases loaded to end the game.
The Saints concluded their 2022 campaign with 19 victories and 14 coming in conference play.
