LACEY, Wash. – 90 minutes wasn't enough to decide the tightly-contested matchup between the Saints and Simon Fraser, as the match ended in a scoreless tie.
The Saints (2-2-1, 0-1-1 GNAC) and Red Leafs (1-2-3, 0-1-1 GNAC) showcased the high levels of competition and goalkeeping the GNAC has to offer. Although the match ended 0-0, both team had their fair share of opportunities to break the stalemate. Saint Martin's goalkeeper
Ali Campigotto had five saves on 13 shots faced in her shutout performance, include a pair of acrobatic saves.
SFU put the pressure on early, totaling six shots to Saint Martin's two in the first half. Campigotto and the Saints defense stood tall and didn't flinch in the face of the Red Leaf's attack. SMU did have a great scoring opportunity in the 35th minute as
Rayvn Mummey slipped behind the defense but her shot drifted just left of the sidebar.
SMU had seven shots total in the match. The three shots on goal for the Saints all came in the second half.
Rachel Kimura had a header in the 63rd minute that forced Simon Fraser's keeper to make an outstanding save to keep Saint Martin's off the board. In the waning minutes of play
Ellison Kephart had a shot on goal in the 75th minute and
Alyssa Twogood had a shot on goal in the 85th minute.
The Saints next match will be on the road against Montana State Billings on September 22 at noon. Live stats and video will be available on smusaints.com.
