Saints Mash MSU-Billings with Four Straight Goals

BILLINGS, MT. – The Saint Martin's women's soccer team (3-2-1, 1-1-1 GNAC) fell behind by one goal early, but then they found an offensive outburst, scoring four straight goals to triumph 4-1 over the MSU-Billings Yellowjackets (1-5-2, 1-2 GNAC).

The goose egg was broken in the 20th minute when a hard shot by MSU-B ricocheted off Ali Campigotto and onto a platter for a Yellowjacket attacked to put it in the back of the net. That only spurred on the Saints with more conviction, though, as they found a way to break through in the 41st. Taylor Goodpaster grabbed a ball on the run down the left sideline and eventually crossed it hard into the box where MSU-B poked it into the back of their own net. It was a buzzer beater to end the frame for Saint Martin's as Brianna Yamada launched a high arching cross right in front of the net with less than five seconds in the half. The Billings keeper briefly gained control of the ball before bobbling it enough to let Mia Fleming swoop in a push it into the back of the net as time expired. The ref deemed there was two seconds left on the clock, so the Saints marched into the break with a one goal lead.

After a lightning delay extended halftime, the Saints didn't skip a beat coming as they pressed the Yellowjackets into a turnover where Rayvn Mummey sparkled the ball over the keeper to make it 3-1. The scoring was finished in the 78th when Goodpaster again let loose down the sideline and sent a hard ball towards goal, it took a fortunate deflection to find its way in, but still was credited as a goal to Goodpaster. In the final 70 minutes, Campigotto kept the Saint goal untouched, making six saves to ensure the three-goal win.

The Saints are back on the road Saturday, September 24th when they head to Seattle Pacific University (3-2-1, 1-1-1 GNAC). Kickoff will be at 7 PM at Interbay Stadium.
