NAMPA, Idaho – Saint Martin's men's soccer was bested on the road against the NNU Nighthawks 3-0.
The Saints (0-7-1, 0-2-0) faced a tough opponent on the road in their second conference match, as the Nighthawks (5-1-1, 1-0-0) defeated Saint Martin's 3-0.
The first half of the match was tightly-contested as the two teams felt each other out and put forth their defensive efforts. NNU managed to break the stalemate with a goal in the 45th minute to take a 1-0 lead into the half.
In the second half the match, Northwest Nazarene ramped up their pressure on offense and the Saints thwarted their attempts for most of the half. NNU scored two goal in the 80th minute to extend their lead and win the match 3-0.
SMU had four shots in the match coming from
Jay Mendoza,
Ethan Jud,
Diego Andrade and
Caden Martin with Jud, Mendoza and Martin accounting for the three shots on goal.
Hunter Askland started in goal and had three saves and one goal allowed.
Nick Mueller finished the match in goal after Askland received a red card, and had two saves in the match.
