Late Goal Not Enough as SPU Downs SMU

SEATTLE, WA. – The Saint Martin's women's soccer team (3-3-1, 1-2-1 GNAC) came up short on Saturday night against Seattle Pacific University (5-2-1, 3-1 GNAC), falling 3-1 to the Falcons.

A poorly timed tackle on the endline resulted in a penalty call against the Saints early. Pacific would convert the PK to go up 1-0 in the 14th. A rough first half would continue into the 35th when the Falcons doubled their lead when Toni Miranda headed a ball into the lower corner of the Saint net. Both goals were part of a first half where SPU outshot Saint Martin's 13-1.

The script was flipped in the second half as SMU held a 11-4 shots advantage, but again, Seattle Pacific bulged the back of the net, this team against the run of play, with a launch into the lower right corner. Ravyn Mummey prevented the shutout late in the game though when she got a nice drop off dish from Rachel Kimura right in front of the cage where she powered home a shot for her second of the season. Kimura led the Saints in shots with five, while Maria Pagnotta had two on goal. Sophie Mendoza would finish with five saves.

The Saints are back at home Thursday when they host Northwest Nazarene (5-1-2, 3-0-1 GNAC) for the SMU Equality Game. Kickoff is set for 3 PM at Saints Field.
