Saints’ WSOC Defeat Otters 2-1

LACEY, Wash. – The Saints remain undefeated on Saints Field after defeating California State Monterey Bay 2-1.

Both of the Saints' (2-1-0) goals were scoring in the first half in nearly identical fashion. After the opening minutes were spent feeling each other out and adjusting to the windy conditions, Maria Pagnotta scoring the first goal of the match with a shot from the right side that found the upper left corner in the 21st minute.

For the second goal, it was Alyssa Carapia from nearly the same location as Pagnotta with a shot that  also found its way past the goalkeeper's reach to the upper left corner to give Saint Martin's a 2-0 lead. The Saints went into the break with a two goal lead and momentum in their favor.

The Otters (2-2-1) came out of halftime locked in and scored a goal in the 47th minute. There was an altercation that occurred after the goal that resulted in Salma Perez and one of Monterey Bay's plyers receiving red cards.

The combination of good defense by the Saints and some stellar saves by Ali Campigotto was enough to hold off Monterey Bay despite the early second half goal.
