FAIRBANKS, AK. – The Saint Martin's women's basketball team (9-15, 5-11 GNAC) splattered the Alaska Nanooks Saturday afternoon by a score of 82-65 in the Patty Center. The Saints were fueled by a 30 point, seven assist performance from
Anjel Galbraith and a 28 point, six rebound outing from
Rian Clear.
The Saints outscored Alaska in every quarter and it started with a convincing first quarter. After the home side got out to a 7-0 lead, Saint Martin's finished the frame with a 20-6 run. It was started by an Galbraith jumper that was followed by a
Kiana Rios three. Galbraith followed that up with a three, and by the time Clear got in on the three party, it was 11-11. Galbraith then grabbed a steal and finish to give SMU the lead, Clear got back-to-back buckets, and Galbraith finished the run with an and-one.
The second quarter was opened up by a Clear three-point play that gave Saint Martin's a double-digit cushion that they would keep ahold of for most of the remainder of the contest. Every time the Nanooks hit a big shot, the Saints responded with something bigger. When UAF drew it within seven, SMU finished the half with back-to-back threes, one by Galbraith and one by Clear to go into the locker room it up 13.
The Saints would keep the lead at double-figures the entirety of the second half, including getting it up to 20 with a
Sarah Lamet bucket in the fourth. Lamet finished with eight rebounds to lead all Saints. Galbraith's 30 matches her career high as a Saint, while Clear's 28 is second in her collegiate career.
Lauryn Morris also chipped in 12 points and seven boards.
The Saints will finish out the regular season at home this Thursday and Saturday, starting with a battle against Central Washington (19-6, 11-5 GNAC) on Thursday at 5:15 PM at Marcus Pavilion.
