SEATTLE, Wash. and BILLINGS, Mont. – The Saint Martin's women's basketball team (7-13, 3-9 GNAC) were tripped up in their two conference road games last week, falling by a score of 71-58 against Seattle Pacific (12-8, 7-5 GNAC) and a score of 59-49 against MSU-Billings (20-4, 11-2 GNAC).
Thursday's game against SPU was marred by foul trouble as the Saints had 25 fouls against to just 14 fouls called on the Falcons. SMU was down 19 going into the fourth quarter, but despite all that had gone against them, they did not go down quietly. A monster comeback erupted, and Saint Martin's was able to draw the score within six with just 1:34 to go. In the end, the Falcons made their free throws down the stretch and SMU wasn't able to conjure up the full magic needed to complete the comeback.
Rian Clear had one of her best outings of the season as she launched up 20 points, while
Kiana Rios was right behind with 19. Rios chipped in eight boards, while
Chenoa Louie had a monster 10 rebounds.
FINAL: Seattle Pacific 71, Saint Martin's 58
The Saints then took their talents out to Montana where they gave the Yellowjackets all they could handle, just like did to MSU-B when they met in Lacey. Offense wasn't easy for either side all night and a 18-point first quarter from the home side ended up being the difference as they got themselves a cushion that the Saints couldn't make up. The defense was there, though, as SMU held MSUB to single digit points in the second quarter, but the Yellowjackets kept a solid buffer. Again, the Saints were just a thread away in the fourth, as a
Kiana Rios three made it only a four-point lead for Billings before they were able to extend it to ten by the time they crossed the finish line.
Anjel Galbraith led the way with 17 points, while
Mya Hatchett-Groce had nine points off the bench. Rios was the leading rebounder with six.
FINAL: MSU-Billings 59, Saint Martin's 49
The Saints are back at home on Thursday, February 9
th as they host Simon Fraser University (8-9, 6-7 GNAC) in another conference affair. Tipoff will be at 5:15 PM at Marcus Pavilion.
