TACOMA, Wash. – The SMU track & field teams are finding early success after leaving the PLU Open with nine podium finishes across seven events, including four first place finishers.

In the women's 100m hurdles,
Gabriela Cintron took first place with a time of 15.31.
Isaac Cortes won the men's 800m with a time of 1:56.26.
Ethan Guidry won the men's javelin throw on first attempt with a mark of 51.59m (169-ft, 3-in).
Saint Martin's dominated the women's 1500m as
Cassidy Walchak-Sloan won the event with a time of 4:48.40,
Alauna Carstens was right behind her in second with a time of 4:50.04 and
Kya Ramirez finished fourth with a time of 5:18.13.
Women's long jump was another event Saint Martin's was well represented in as
Alyssa Duncan placed second with a mark of 5.20m (17-ft, 0.75-in),
Gabriela Cintron placed third with a mark of 4.67m (15-ft 4-in) and
Margaret Zilla placed fifth with a mark of 4.65m (15-ft, 3.25-in).
Ryan Doidge placed third in men's pole vault with a mark of 4.00m (13-ft, 1.5-in).
Jocelyn Saribay finished third in women's shot put with a mark of 11.49m (37-ft, 8.5-in) and fifth in women's hammer throw with a mark of 8.53m (28-ft).
Olivia Cervantes ran the 400m in 1:07.01, for a fourth place finish.
In the women's 200m, Madison Vu finished sixth with a time of 27.06.
Naomi Hartley took fifth place in the women's 800m with a time of 2:25.95.
Head coach Scott Carter acknowledged his teams early success with, "I'm really happy with how the team performed this weekend. It's early in the outdoor season, and the focus has been executing what we've been working on in practice. The athletes have done a great job and I'm excited to see this early work pay off."
The Saints will be heading to Portland, Oregon next to participate in the Lewis & Clark Spring Break Open on March 18th.
