BILLINGS, Mont. – The Saint Martin's baseball team (6-15, 3-5 GNAC) exploded in extra innings of the series finale versus MSU Billings (10-12, 4-4 GNAC) on Sunday afternoon, scraping out a 13-12 victory over the Yellowjackets. It was a gutsy effort to grab a win after falling in the first three games of the weekend.
Game one on Friday was highlighted offensively by
Brady Bean who went 3-4 with three RBIs, two walks and two runs scored. He came a home run short of the cycle in that contest. Braeden McNalley and
Dylan McLaughlin each scored twice.
Kameron Richards pitched admirably in relief, allowing just one earned run over 2.1 innings.
Finnley Butler had three strikeouts.
Final: MSU Billings 16, Saint Martin's 8
Game two was McNally and
Michael Yamaguchi teaming up offensively as the pair each went 2-3 and Yamaguchi had two doubles and an RBI.
Griffin Williams brought home two runs in the game and
Mattingly Milledge gave up just one earned run in two innings on the mound.
Final: MSU Billings 10, Saint Martin's 5
On Saturday, the Saints and the Yellowjackets played two close contests that were decided by the thinnest of margins. In the first game, SMU notched five runs in the first inning, but MSUB slowly chipped away at the lead, finally going ahead in the bottom of the eighth to eventually win by one.
Reid Little stepped up clutch in the contest, driving four of the eight SMU runs home, while
Trevor McCorkle also brought home a pair.
Mark Steward and Yamaguchi each scored twice.
Cole Hatton had a solid start, lasting six innings.
Final: MSU Billing 9, Saint Martin's 8
All the drama came through in the final game of the weekend, going to extras before the Saints exploded for six runs to seemingly put the game to bed. MSUB wasn't ready to see the end, however, and nearly came all the way back before
Blaze Wong slammed the door to nab his second collegiate save. The Saints batted .486 in the contest as a team, led by Little and
Alohi Arecchi who each had clutch pinch hit knocks, and Ingram who had a perfect 3-3 day with two RBIs and three runs scored. Williams was right behind going 4-5 with a double, while Bean had three hits including a double, and McNally was 2-3.
Carson Jones picked up his first ever collegiate win out of the 'pen, while Wong slammed the door shut in the clutch scenario as the Yellowjackets got a potential tying run to third before Wong forced a groundout.
Final: Saint Martin's 13, MSU Billings 12
The Saints are back in action at home this Friday when they host preseason GNAC favorite Northwest Nazarene (14-16, 8-4 GNAC) in Lacey. First pitch on Friday is set for 1 PM.
