Lacey, WA - The Saint Martin's University men's basketball team, the two-time defending regular season Great Northwest Athletic Conference champions and 2023 NCAA tournament participants, are thrilled to announce the signing of two talented players, Marcel Stevens and Jayshawn Moore, for the upcoming 2023-24 season. These additions will undoubtedly bolster the team's roster and further solidify their position as a formidable force in DII collegiate basketball.

Marcel Stevens

Marcel Stevens, a 6'1 guard, joins Saint Martin's after transferring from Cal State Northridge (CSUN), where he competed in the NCAA Division I Big West Conference. As a junior, Marcel is set to make a significant impact with his veteran presence and ability to explode on the offensive side of the floor. During his time at CSUN, Marcel played in 30 games and started 11, impressively sinking the third-highest number of three-pointers on the team and boasting a remarkable 3-point field goal percentage of 38.0%. Averaging 4.2 points per game at the DI level, Marcel will be a valuable asset to the team as they aim to continue their GNAC winning streak.

"We're very excited about Marcel," says Head Coach Aaron Landon. "He's mature, experienced, and he can really shoot the ball. He stood out to us during the recruiting process and has already built relationships with some guys in the program. I think he's going to be highly successful at Saint Martin's."

Jayshawn Moore

Jayshawn Moore, a 6'6 forward, brings his talent to Saint Martin's after a successful stint at Navarro College in Texas. Prior to that, he showcased his skills at Tarleton State University, competing in the NCAA Division I Western Athletic Conference during his freshman year. At Navarro College, playing under the guidance of Coach Grant McMillan, Jayshawn displayed his remarkable abilities, averaging 9.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game. On 16 different occasions, Moore scored in double figures and that will undoubtedly make a significant impact on the team's overall performance.

"I really like Jayshawn; he's tough on the glass and guards multiple positions," Coach Landon expresses. "The more we watched him, the more impressed we became with his decision-making and versatility. He's been well-coached and cares about winning. We're really excited to start working with him."

The signing of Stevens and Moore further solidifies Saint Martin's University as a powerhouse in the DII landscape. As the two-time defending regular season GNAC champions, the team has consistently displayed exceptional skills, teamwork, and a commitment to excellence. These signings will join a stellar group of returners as the Saints look to return back to, and make a deep run, in the NCAA tournament next spring.
