LACEY, Wash. - The excitement is palpable as the Saint Martin's University volleyball season approaches, and all eyes are on the new recruits who are poised to make their mark. With a strong foundation of returning players, these newcomers are set to elevate the team's performance to new heights. Head Coach Dan Behnke shares his perspective on the talented additions that have injected new energy into the Saint Martin's volleyball program.

"Our newcomers are a competitive group," Coach Behnke proudly states. "Four of our five freshmen played at the USA Junior National Championships with one of them winning a national title. They're fun to coach and they're blending in well with our returners. Our returners have done a great job of establishing expectations and raising the bar for our program as well."

At the forefront of these promising newcomers is Sirena Peredo. According to Coach Behnke, Sirena possesses remarkable attributes: "Sirena's ball control and volleyball IQ are off the charts. She's an explosive attacker and will make an immediate impact." Having made her mark at Dakine Volleyball Club in Tacoma and earning MVP honors at Washington High School, Sirena's prowess is evident.

Ashley Tuianna's infectious energy is a standout feature. "Ashley's energy is infectious," Coach Behnke emphasizes. "She has a fast arm swing and is super positive and looking for ways to improve her game." Her journey as a walk-on showcases her determination and drive to contribute positively to the team.

Tiffany Lam's versatility catches the eye. Coach Behnke notes, "Tiffany has great quickness and reads hitters very well. I expect her to see the court a lot this season." Her experience as a DS/Libero for a top club and a starting setter at Lone Star High School demonstrates her adaptability.

Tehani Yamashita's quiet demeanor doesn't hinder her impact. "Although a little on the quiet side, Tehani is all over the court in the backrow," Coach Behnke observes. "She understands the game very well and is starting to really shine in practices."

Emily Garten's assets extend to both her playing style and leadership qualities. "Emily has a really heavy arm swing and puts a lot of pressure on a defense," Coach Behnke notes. "She comes with leadership experience as well." Her family's NFL legacy adds a unique dimension to her background as her dad was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the sixth round of the 1991 NFL Draft.

Peyton Griffin's potential excites Coach Behnke. "We recruited Peyton prior to her attending Cal State East Bay so I was excited to see her become available through the portal," he mentions. "She has quick hands and runs a fast offense."

Kamara White's experience makes her a standout addition. "Kamara is a steady setter and comes with championship experience," Coach Behnke highlights. "She's eager to learn and is already proving to be a difference maker for us this year."

With each of Coach Behnke's quotes serving as a testament to the promising future of Saint Martin's University volleyball, the team embarks on a journey with new vigor and determination. The infusion of fresh talent combined with the leadership of returning players sets the stage for an enthralling season filled with growth, competition, and the pursuit of excellence.

The SMU volleyball season starts on Friday, September 1st with the Saints competing down at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs versus Purdue Northwest and Oklahoma Christian.
