BILLINGS, MT — The Saints Men's Soccer team (0-9-0, 0-3-0 GNAC) traveled east to take on the Montana State Billings Yellowjackets in a conference matchup this past Thursday.
The first 15 minutes of the match would be tightly contested with both sides showing off their defensive capabilities, as the Saints would snuff out a couple of goal attempts by the Yellowjackets thanks to the efforts of
Judah Straight and
Jonathan Wright, who would both play a full 90 minutes. Even with a competitive start, MSU-Billings would find a crease in the SMU defense to score their first goal in the 25th minute. Straight and
Xander Koenig would attempt to even the score by halftime, each attempting a shot following the Yellowjackets' opening goal, but their attempts would not result in points for the Saints. MSU-Billings would add another goal in the 44th minute off a penalty kick to take a 2-0 lead.
Cole Kartchner would attempt to get the Saints back on track after halftime, attempting a shot in the opening six minutes that would ultimately be saved by MSU-B's Fred Reiter. SMU would continue to apply pressure to the MSU-B defense until the Yellowjackets would mount their counter-attack, leading to a third goal in the 57th minute. The Saints would not be able to keep pace and would give up two more goals to lose the contest 5-0. Koenig and Kartchner would combine for five total shots and goalkeeper
Connor Leistiko would record two saves on the day.
The Saints will return home to face Western Washington University on Saturday, October 12th at 3:45 PM. Get tickets
