LACEY, WA — Saint Martin's Women's Soccer (1-9-2, 1-4-2 GNAC) would take on the Northwest Nazarene Nighthawks this past Thursday. Coming off back-to-back draws, the Saints were looking to build momentum going into the back portion of the schedule.
The Nighthawks would not waste time getting on the scoreboard, however, as they would strike just three minutes into the game. A corner kick from Nicole Lewis would deflect off a Saints defender, resulting in an own goal. They would keep their foot on the gas as moments later, the Nighthawks would strike again, extending their lead to 2-0 in just the fifth minute of the match.
The early deficit would provide a necessary spark for the Saints' defense, as they would tighten down for the remaining 85 minutes of match time.
Keilee Silva would anchor the backline with an impressive defensive performance in her full 90 minutes on the field, while
Flavia Burrell would post seven saves throughout the game. Both sides would draw two yellow cards each in the final third of the game in an what turned into an intense battle.
Ravyn Mummey and
Eve Charles were offensive standouts for the Saints, with Mummey firing off three shots—two of which were on target—while Charles had two shots, both on goal. Silva,
Inara Lopes De Andrade,
Brianna Yamada, and
Taylor Copeland would each record a shot on goal. Despite their efforts, the early goals left the Saints chasing from behind all afternoon, and the final result would be a 2-0 loss.
The Saints will take on Western Oregon at home on Saturday, October 19th, at 2:00 PM. Get tickets
