LACEY, WA — The Saint Martin's Men's Soccer team (0-11-0, 0-5-0 GNAC) hosted the Western Oregon Wolves in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference contest this past Thursday.
The Wolves would be ready for the contest sitting atop the GNAC standings and would be on the attack early. Despite early defensive efforts from
Zack Martin and
Jonathan Wright, who would play a full 90 minutes, Western Oregon would strike in the 17th minute by Marcus Vazquez. Goalkeeper
Connor Leistiko would make good saves early on in the contest, tallying four in total, but would allow two more goals in the first half to extend the Wolves' lead to 3-0.
The Saints would find life on the offensive side of the ball in the second half thanks to senior forward
Ethan Jud, who would drill a ball into the upper-left corner of the Wolves' goal after an impressive pass from
Angel Alvarado-Fajardo in the 68th minute.
Cole Sullivan would follow this up with a goal of his own just ten minutes later, thanks in part again to Alvarado-Fajardo, along with
Judah Straight who would also be credited with an assist. The Saints would close the Wolves' lead by a score of 5-2, but a final goal from Nathan Martinez would seal the victory for Western Oregon in the 89th minute, 6-2.
The Men's Soccer team will take on Seattle Pacific at the Interbay Soccer Field this Saturday, October 19th, at 2:30 PM. Get tickets
