OLYMPIA, WA — The Saints Men's Soccer team (0-7-0, 0-1-0 GNAC) dropped their first Great Northwest Athletic Conference contest against Seattle Pacific at the Regional Athletic Complex.
Following a week off after non-conference play, the Saints would seek their first win of the season against a productive Falcons squad. Seattle Pacific would start the game hot with a goal by Reymundo Mendez in the third minute, but the Saints would tighten up following the score. The defensive side of the ball would be led by senior captain
Zack Martin and newcomer
Jonathan Wright who would both play a full 90 minutes.
In the 24th minute,
Judah Straight would land his first goal of the season after a scramble in front of the Seattle Pacific goal, tying things up at a score of 1-1. Carter Gay would put the Falcons ahead in the 43rd minute, but the Saints' defense would remain strong through the first half. The Saints would struggle to hold onto this pace, however, as Connor Tollon of Seattle Pacific would put up two goals in a matter of seven minutes (58', 65') to pull away from Saint Martin's in the second half.
Connor Leistiko would be at goalkeeper for the Saints for the entire match and would notch three saves on the day, but would ultimately give up two more goals in the 74th and 88th minutes to allow six goals in total.
Ethan Jud and
Giovanni Gonzalez would both record a shot on goal.
The Saints head to Nampa to take on Northwest Nazarene for their second GNAC contest of the year on Saturday, October 5, at 1:00 PM PST.
