MONMOUTH, OR — The Saint Martin's Men's Soccer team (0-14, 0-8 GNAC) traveled to Western Oregon University last night to take on the #15 Wolves in a GNAC contest.
The Wolves would jump out to an early 1-0 after an initial offensive push resulted in a goal in the second minute of the match. The Saints would manage to put together a counter-attack that showed promise, but they could not convert on a corner kick, resulting in another string of goals for WOU in the 26th and 30th minutes of the game.
Connor Leistiko would end the day with two saves and, with the help of defenders
Zack Martin,
Lukas Wexler, and
Asher Sullivan, would tighten down on the defensive side for the remainder of the game. The Saints entered halftime down 3-0.
The pace of the game would slow down considerably in the second half, with both teams only attempting a few shots a piece through the 70th minute. The Saints would finally capitalize in the 79th minute thanks to a goal from
Judah Straight set up by a pass from
Kai Pahl, which would cut the WOU lead down to just two points. Even with the spark, the Saints would not have enough time to catch back up and would give up a goal in the final minute to lose the contest by a score of 4-1.
Angel Alvarado-Fajardo would attempt three shots during the match, while Straight contributed two of his own along with the goal.
The Saints will travel to Bellingham to face the Western Washington Vikings on Saturday, November 2nd at 4:00 PM. Get tickets
