BURNABY, BRITISH COLUMBIA — The Saint Martin's Volleyball team (5-15, 3-9 GNAC) went up to Canada last night to take on Simon Fraser in a conference match.
SFU would find their stride early, jumping out to a 14-4 lead over SMU to open the game.
Emmy Hansen,
Zoey Crimin, and
Jennifer Soha would all contribute kills to get the offense back on track, but the Red Leafs would find responses to most of SMU's attacks. The first set would end 25-12 in favor of Simon Fraser. SFU brought their momentum into the second set, as the Saints would once again find themselves on their heels as they would reach a 17-5 deficit. Multiple kills by Soha, along with contributions from Hansen and
Daniela Gonzalez, would claw the Saints into double digits, but they would ultimately lose the second set by a score of 25-11.
The Saints would open the third set by a point off a setting error, along with Hansen, Gonzalez, and Soha adding points to the board, but the team could not find a way to stop Simon Fraser's scoring runs.
Emily Garten would land both of her kills in the third set to help pick the offense back up, but it would be too late as the Red Leafs would claim the third set and match by a score of 25-11. Hansen and Soha would end the match with six kills apiece, while
Tiffany Lam would have a team-high ten assists through three sets.
The Saints continue their road trip at the Sam Carver Gymnasium this Saturday as they face off against the Western Washington Vikings. Get tickets
