Mason Leads Offensive Efforts in Loss to Seattle Pacific

SMU Volleyball was defeated by Seattle Pacific on Thursday, November 14th, 3-0.

LACEY, WA — The Saint Martin's Volleyball team (5-18, 3-12 GNAC) hosted the Seattle Pacific Falcons in a conference contest as they enter the season's final two weeks.

SMU would trade blows with SPU to begin the match in the first set, with Emily Garten and Kingsley Mason taking charge of the scoring efforts for the Saints. Mason would lead the team with 13 total kills in three sets and Garten would end the match with ten in total. The Falcons would be up to the challenge, but early service errors would keep the Saints close in score. Emmy Hansen would begin her own scoring run in the first set and would end the night with 11 kills and eight digs. However, Seattle Pacific would find their offensive rhythm later into the set and win it by a score of 25-17. The second set would follow a similar pattern to the first, with both teams finding responses to the other out of the gate. Peyton Griffin would be the main setter for the Saints and tallied a season-high 30 assists throughout the match. Liberos Abigail Halstead and Mia Arambula would combine for 15 digs, with Mason contributing ten of her own. Even with an impressive defensive effort, the Falcons would pull away in the second set 25-22.

The Falcons would open the third set by jumping out to a 12-7 lead before the Saints' offense would get back on track. Zoey Crimin would record the team's only block of the night while being an offensive factor in set three, totaling three kills on the night. Tiffany Lam, Tehani Yamashita, and Madison Thomas would provide support on the defensive side of things by combining for 11 digs. In the end, SPU's early lead would be too much for the Saints to overcome, and they would lose the set and match 25-21.

The Saints will host Montana State Billings on Saturday, November 16th at 1:00 PM for Senior Day and the team's final home game of the season. Get tickets here.
