ANCHORAGE, AK — Saint Martin's Women's Basketball (6-2, 0-1 GNAC) traveled to Alaska for their first contest of a two-game road trip, which would also serve as their first conference matchup of the season against Alaska Anchorage.
The contest would begin with an early Seawolves scoring run before
Jada Travis would get the Saints on the board. The true freshman would score 14 points throughout the contest and would only be matched by
Keeli Jade Smith, who also dropped 14 points and collected three boards. Travis would contribute five assists to the team's totals. The scoring duo would be aided in the first half by
Laiken Hill, who would help the Saints close the gap on UAA's early lead with a set of baskets. Hill would go on to score eight points along with
Kiana Rios, who would add seven rebounds to her totals after coming off an impressive 30-point performance last week. Even with the Saints finding contributions from a multitude of spots in the lineup, the Seawolves would stay one step ahead and head into halftime with an expanded 40-24 lead.
Coming out of the break, Alaska Anchorage would continue their impressive day on offense, finding answers for anything that the Saints threw at them on both sides of the court. The Seawolves would most notably out-shoot the Saints from the three-point line, connecting on 5-12 (41.7%) of their attempts while SMU would only go 2-13 (15.4%) during the game. In the end, Alaska Anchorage would keep their distance and hand the Saints a loss in their opening conference contest, 78-58.Â
Sarah Lamet would finish the game with seven points, three rebounds, and two blocks, while Travis, Rios, and
Madelyn Brown would tally three steals each.
The Saints will be back in action on Saturday, December 7th, as they face Alaska Fairbanks at 2:00 PM PST. You can get tickets
