LACEY, WA – Saint Martin's softball team went full game mode as they swept the weekend against Simon Fraser, SMU came out on top with winning all four matchups.
The first game SMU faced with Simon Fraser set the tone for the weekend. The game started off in the top of the first inning when SFU scored one run. The Saints answered back in the bottom of the first after they got their bats rolling. Starting out in the lineup was #23 Ashley Goodale who singled down the third base line by bunting earning SM's first runner on base. #26 Heather Ebner came up and singled to right field putting Goodale on third base. The next Saint to help bring in the run was #1 Shay Lopes when she reached on a fielding error which scored Goodale, this left SFU, and SMU tied with one a piece. SFU couldn't make anything happen in the top of the second, but the Saints managed to further the lead in the bottom of the inning. Starting off the bottom of the second #7 Vanessa Smoke reached on a fielder's choice to second base. Next up was #5 Destiny Conerly who singled to left center and advanced Smoke. The next batter up was Goodale who walked, this loaded the bases for the Saints. The bases were loaded and there were now two outs #26 Heather Ebner comes to the plate, Ebner manages to double down the left field line scoring Goodale, Conerly and Smoke. This put the Saints ahead with four and SFU with one. Simon Fraser was able to score one run in the top of the third. The Saints once again rallied back in the bottom of the third when #1 Shay Lopes got walked on her plate appearance, she then advanced to second on a wild pitch and was soon batted in when Smoke singled to center field and Lopes Scored. The Saints continue to fight the battle against SFU and further the gap in the bottom of the fourth. In the bottom of the fourth inning Goodale singled to left field starting the bats for the Saints. Next up to the plate was #10 Britney Patrick who reached on a fielder's choice. Heather Ebner get up to bat and smashes out to left field earning a double and scoring Patrick. This is when the Saints scored another run when #1 Shay Lopes lined out to right field, but Ebner still managed to score. This left the Saints up by five in the bottom of the fourth. SFU managed to score three more runs by the end of the game, but the Saints still won the game by two.

In the second game of the Saturday double header the Saints mercy ruled the Red Leaf's in the bottom of the first and here's how. The game remained scoreless through the first inning; the first scoring was when SFU scored two runs in the top of the second taking the lead. In the bottom of the second SMU started scoring, this occurred when #1 Shay Lopes was walked when she was at the plate and managed to steal second and third on a wild pitch and a passed ball this then put her in scoring position. The run was scored when #4 Kekai Schultz came up to bat and doubled to left field scoring Lopes. After the first run was scored SMU showed out and kept them coming. In the bottom of the third #26 Heather Ebner singled through to the right side and advanced to second on a throwing error #10 Britney Patrick managed to advance to third on this throwing error by right field and #23 Ashley Goodale was able to score. Lopes steps up to the plate singling through to the left side advancing #15 Shelby Lawson and Ebner and scoring Patrick. The final run of the inning was when Smoke was walked advancing all runner which scored Heather Ebner. This makes the score SMU 4 Simon Fraser 2. The Saints continue to widen the gap in the score during the bottom of the fourth. In the bottom of the fourth SMU was able to score Britney Patrick off a wild pitch and a throwing error by the catcher. The gap in the score widened in the bottom of the fifth, this gap started after Conerly walked, advancing Smoke, and Schultz and scoring Detrinidad. The next run was earned when Goodale singled up the middle but advancing to second on a throwing error. This throwing error advanced Conerly to third and scored Smoke and Schultz. After that play SMU managed to score the last two runs that ended the game early due to the mercy rule. These were scored by # 10 Britney Patrick who singled up the middle and scored Conerly. The last run was scored when #10 Britney Patrick scored on a passed ball. This was the final run that won the game for the Saints in the bottom of the fifth inning.

In the third game of the series Saint Martin's kept the lead through the whole game battling to keep the win streak. SFU was unable to score in the top of the first inning. In the bottom on the first inning #10 Britney Patrick reached on a fielding error by the SFU shortstop, this caused #23 Ashley Goodale to score unearned. The Red Leaf's were unable to score any run in the top of the second but they Saints managed to increase the gap. In the bottom of the second inning #19 Olivia Matlock singled up the middle, during this #1 Shay Lopes was able to score. In the top of the third SFU was able to score one run against the Saints and start to battle back. In the Bottom of the third #10 Britney Patrick hits a homerun to left field scoring herself and #26 Heather Ebner, this is Patrick's first homerun on the season. This now puts the Saints in the lead with four runs and SFU with one. The score remained the same for two innings till the bottom of the sixth the Saints started to score once again. SMU in the bottom of the sixth scored when Goodale bunted singling to the catch and advanced to third on an error thrown by the catch, this scored #9 Destiny Salamanca. This put the Saints ahead by four, leave SFU with only one run. The remaining innings neither team was able to score. Saint Martin's wins with five and has won three of the four games in the series.

The fourth and final game of the series, the Saints battled to win the matchup. In the top of the first inning SFU scores the first run of the game. The Saints answer back in the bottom of the first when #5 Destiny Conerly singled through the left side, advancing #7 Vanessa Smoke, and scoring #1 Shay Lopes. The next run scored was when #23 Ashley Goodale singled up the middle scoring Smoke, putting the Saints ahead by one. The game remained the same score till the bottom of the fourth when the Saints to score. After Lopes singled through to the right side, Conerly came up to the plate and homered down the left field line scoring Lopes. The Saints continued to get on base singling through, they scored once more when #10 Britney Patrick reached on a fielder's choice up the middle leaving Goodale to score. This leaves the score five for SMU and one for SFU. Saint Martin's earned another run in the bottom of the fifth when Smoke reached on a fielder's choice to second base, a fielding error gave Lopes the chance to score. This gave the Saints a score of six and SFU still remained with only one. The Saints continued to lead through this last match and earned the final run in the bottom of the sixth. The last run was scored in the bottom of the sixth when Lopes reached on a throwing error, this throwing error gave #17 Jules Detrinidad the time she needed to score and bring the Saints to a score of seven. Simon Fraser was unable to score anymore in the next inning, this gave the Saints the win.
