NAMPA, ID — Saint Martin's bounced back in a big way in their second game of the NCAA West Regional Tournament, taking down a hot Concordia University Irvine team 8-2 on Friday, May 10.
The offense was dominate from the jump, as
Ashley Goodale,
Heather Ebner, and
Britney Patrick slapped back-to-back-to-back singles to load the bases with zero outs in the bottom of the first.
Shelby Lawson took a walk to drive in the first run, followed immediately by a
Olivia Matlock double that drove in three runs.
Vanessa Smoke kept things rolling with a double of her own and an RBI to boot, while
Destiny Conerly kept the momentum going with the team's third-consecutive double and another RBI. Goodale would drive in one more run before being tagged out at third base to bring the score to 7-1.
The game would slow down after the first inning, but
Chloe Leverington locked it down on the defensive side, only allowing two total runs on the day while shutting out CUI after the third inning. She would finish the day with four strikeouts and her 14th win of the season.
Goodale and Conerly finished the day with two hits while
Mia Zachary would score the team's eighth run on a hit to center field that would result in a triple.
The Saints play immediately following this contest and have another shot against Northwest Nazarene, who they lost to in their first game of the tournament. The game will take place at 4:15 PM on Friday, May 10.
