LACEY, WA — Saint Martin's University announced the hiring of Gabriel Trimbur today as the next Head Men's & Women's Cross-Country and Distance Track Coach. Coming to SMU from Seattle University (DI), where he served as an assistant coach, Trimbur's experience with recruiting and training student-athletes will serve the Saints well.
Director of Athletics, Steve O'Brien, expressed enthusiasm for the hire when stating that,
"Following an extensive search, on behalf of our search committee, the men's and women's cross-country teams, and valued campus partners who participated in the process, I am excited to share that we have hired Gabriel Trimbur as the program's next head coach. A former intercollegiate student-athlete himself at Wagner College, Gabriel demonstrated the ability to connect with both our student-athletes and the other members of cross-country and track & field coaching staff, critical qualities for our next head coach."
Trimbur joins the Saints staff from Seattle University where he was responsible for coordinating recruiting and visit efforts while assisting in the training of distance athletes within the program during the 2023-2024 season. He also was crucial in the internal communications of the program, helping organize coaching development efforts and operations for the Redhawks. Trimbur also brings his own athletic experience to the program as a member of the Wagner College track team during his undergraduate studies in 2015-2019. He also received a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Washington in the spring of 2023. Trimbur also has extensive experience developing distance training programs for other running programs outside of intercollegiate athletics. Coach Trimbur is excited to use his background in coaching and athletics to take the reins of the Saint Martin's University Cross Country program while being an integral part of the Track & Field staff and is excited to build off the momentum both programs picked up during the 2023-2024 athletic year:
"I know that I'm joining a knowledgeable and successful staff that shares my goals of keeping our athletes' well being in mind while striving to achieve both athletic and academic success! We have an incredible training ground for growth here at Saint Martin's University and I'm excited to contribute to the development of our current and future student athletes!"
Over the past seven months, the distance program has been led by former All-American, and Saint Martin's alumnus, Nathan Carlson. O'Brien noted, "We could not be more appreciative of the vital role Coach Carlson played during this time of transition within the program. We look forward to his continued involvement with the team moving forward."
Trimbur begins his duties at the helm today.
