Saints Women’s Soccer defeats MSU Billings at home for first GNAC victory

LACEY, Wash. — The Saint Martin's Women's Soccer team secured a 3-0 victory at Saints Field in Lacey, Washington on Thursday, October 16.

The win marked SMU's first GNAC win of the season and second overall win of the year. The Saints came out with a strong offensive push early and built a 2-0 first-half lead that held for an eventual 3-0 victory at home.

How It Happened

  • The Saints saw two shots on goal, both by Angely Puga, within the first minute of game action to set a tone early in the match.
  • In the 19th minute, Brooke Streeter drew a penalty, which she converted to give the Saints a 1-0 lead.
  • Later in the 32nd minute, Hinata Kojima found Briana-Jean Tanaka on a cross, who converted the goal to double SMU's lead to 2-0. The Saints totaled eight shots, four of which were on target, in the first half to take a 2-0 lead into the halftime break.
  • The Saints held the Yellowjackets scoreless in the second half, adding a goal in the 90th minute. Briana-Jean Tanaka scored her second goal of the match, this time off an assist off a corner kick by Rose Ivanis.
