Volleyball defeats Seattle Pacific in three sets

LACEY, Wash. — The Saint Martin's Volleyball team was victorious  3-0 against Seattle Pacific on Saturday, October 18 at Marcus Pavilion.

The Saints battled three closely-contested sets against the Falcons, prevailing in each set to capture a home sweep. The win improved SMU's record to 12-6 on the season and 5-5 in GNAC play.

How It Happened

  • After a neck-and-neck start, the Saints saw an 8-1 run that put the home team ahead 13-6. SMU held a steady lead throughout the middle of the set, before a late run by the Falcons tied the set at 23-23. The Saints capitalized off a service error and attack error to win the final two points, winning the set 25-23. The Saints hit .286% as a team in the opening frame.
  • The second set saw SMU hit .314% as a team and hold a 15-7 advantage in kills. The Saints jumped out to a 10-3 lead, before the Falcons eventually fought back to tie the set at 14-14. With the frame knotted at 22-22, Emmy Hansen recorded a kill and went on to serve the ensuing two Saint Martin's points to propel the Saints to a 25-22 second-set victory.
  •  The Saints held a 17-12 advantage in kills in the third and final set, and fought off a tight finish to win 26-24. After a back-and-forth set, the Saints found themselves down 23-22 late in the frame after a 3-0 run by the Falcons. SMU was down 24-23, before back-to-back kills by Hanna Ligons and Kingsley Mason forced match point. A block by Kingsley Mason on the ensuing point sealed the deal, giving the Saints a 26-24 victory to clinch the match in front of the home crowd at Marcus Pavilion.
