Saints Volleyball falls in home opener against No. 7 Simon Fraser

LACEY, Wash. — The Saint Martin's Volleyball team hosted its 2025 home opener on Thursday, October 2, falling to Simon Fraser 3-0.

The Saints held a solid lead early on in the second set, but ultimately the Red Leafs combined to hit .372 and sweep Saint Martin's. The loss dropped SMU's record to 8-4-1 on the season and 1-3 in GNAC play.

How It Happened

  • After a 1-1 start, the Red Leafs went on a 5-0 run to take an early 6-1 lead. The Saints put together several runs, but never came closer than five points, as Simon Fraser went on to win 25-19. SMU totaled 12 kills in the first set and hit .182%.
  • The Saints scored the first four points of the second set, and went on to hold a 6-1 lead. Simon Fraser later went on a 7-1 rally that saw Saint Martin's fall behind 9-8. SMU led as late as 14-13, but SFU bounced back with a huge 6-1 run that put the Saints behind 19-15. Saint Martin's came within three points, but Simon Fraser held on to win 25-19.
  • After the third set start off 2-2, Simon Fraser scored seven straight to take an early lead. Another big 6-1 run by the Red Leafs put the Saints behind 21-9, with the set ultimately ending in a 25-11 Simon Fraser win to seal the match.

Top Performers

  • Emily Garten recorded a team-high 10 kills, while Zoey Crimin added five. Crimin also led the Saints with two blocks. 
  • Sophie Fast recorded 22 assists, a team high. She also led SMU with 10 digs.

  • The Saints totaled 27 kills during the match.
