LACEY, Wash. — The Saint Martin's Men's Soccer team was defeated 6-2 by Western Oregon at the Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey, Washington on Friday, October 24.
The Saints took an early 1-0 lead, but a damp and slick afternoon turned into a 6-2 defeat.
How It Happened
- The Saints started with a strong offensive pace, as Soren Hanson tallied a shot on goal in the 6th minute, and SMU held WOU without any shots for the first 12 minutes.
- Paul Lopez broke the scoreless tie in the 12th minute, connecting on a shot from the left side off assists from Daniel Rempel-White and Soren Hanson.
- The Saints kept the Wolves scoreless for the first 30 minutes, before Harper Neubeck scored an equalizer in the 31st minute.
- Western Oregon added a goal by Michael Divano in the 43rd minute and Yahir Ocampo Navarro in the 45th minute, as the Saints went into halftime trailing 3-1.
- Out of the halftime break, the Saints got back within a one-goal differential, as Jonathan Wright converted a penalty kick in the 47th minute to bring the score to 3-2.
- The match remained closely-contested for the following 23 minutes, but the Wolves scored a goal in the 71st minute and added goals in the 87th and 89th minutes to take a 6-2 victory.
