LACEY, Wash. — The Saint Martin's Volleyball team lost its home game against Alaska Fairbanks 0-3 at Marcus Pavilion on Saturday, October 25.
The loss dropped SMU's record to 11-8 on the season and 4-7 in GNAC play.
How It Happened
- Both teams went back and forth early in the set, as the Saints trailed by a narrow margin of 10-11. A 5-1 run by the Nanooks but the visitors out in front, but the Saints fought back to within two points, as late as 21-19. However, Alaska Fairbanks rattled off a 4-0 run to close out the set and win 25-19.
- The second set was SMU's best team hitting percentage, recording a .265% clip. The Saints held an early 5-4 lead, before the Nanooks bounced back with a 5-0 run to take a 9-7 advantage. A 6-1 run late in the set put SMU up 20-19, but UAF bounced back with a 5-1 run of its own to lead 24-21. The Saints fought back and won the following two points, but Alaska Fairbanks won the final point to take the second set 25-23.
- SMU jumped out to a 7-5 lead to start the third set, but a massive 9-2 run put the Nanooks up 14-8. Another 6-1 run by UAF later in the set saw SMU fall behind 20-10, as the Saints went on to lose 25-15.
