BURNABY, B.C. — The Saint Martin's Women's Soccer team was defeated 2-1 against Simon Fraser on the road in Burnaby, B.C. on Thursday, October 9.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first half, the Saints rallied a goal to cut the deficit in half and made a late push that ultimately fell just shy of a comeback.
How It Happened
- The Red Leafs wasted little time taking a 1-0 lead, as Sofia Faremo scored off an assist from Elyse Beaudry in the fourth minute.
- The Saints fell behind 2-0 in the 35th minute, as Abbey Simpson scored for Simon Fraser.
- SMU bounced back after going down 2-0, as Scotlyn Lecomte scored off an assist from Lia Lopez. The goal for Lecomte, a freshman, is the first of her collegiate career.
- Despite being out shot 13-2, the Saints went into halftime trailing just 2-1.
- In the second half the Saints tallied one shot from Briana-Jean Tanaka in the 61st minute and fended off 11 shots from the Red Leafs without conceding a goal, but ultimately both teams played out a scoreless second half.
- The Saints saw a free kick come close to the goal and a late corner kick in the last minute, but ultimately were unable to find an equalizing goal.Top Performers
