LANGLEY, B.C. — The Saint Martin's Women's Basketball team was defeated 66-47 against Wisconsin-Parkside on Day 2 of the DII Canadian Tip-Off Classic in Langley, B.C. on Saturday, November 1.
A big second quarter by the Rangers put the Saints behind early, as Saint Martins was unable to make up ground in the second half. The loss dropped SMU's record to 1-1 on the season.
How It Happened
- After the game started off at 4-4 early on, an 8-0 run by the Rangers put the Saints behind 12-4. A free-throw by Harper Wagner and a three-pointer by Kiaan Rios cut the deficit to 12-8 at the end of the first quarter.
- SMU cut the deficit to 12-10 with an early basket by Avery Oaster, but Wisconsin-Parkside answered with an 8-0 run to put Saint Martin's behind 20-10. Another 8-0 run by the Rangers put Saint Martin's behind 28-11 with 5:35 remaining in the first half. Saint Martin's cut the lead down to 11 late in the second quarter, but a late layup by Parkside saw the Saints go into halftime trailing 32-19.
- The Saints shot 43.75% from the field in the third quarter and held a 19-16 advantage in a high-scoring frame. SMU cut the lead to 48-38 heading into the fourth quarter.
- Wisconsin-Parkside shot 57.14% from the field in the fourth quarter and out scored the Saints 18-9, handing Saint Martin's a 66-47 loss.
Top Performers
- Kiana Rios led all scorers with 22 points, shooting 7-16 from the field. She added 10 rebounds, recording her first double-double of the season.
- Avery Oaster totaled 13 points and five rebounds.
