Women’s Basketball falls to Point Loma Nazarene in home opener

LACEY, Wash. — The Saint Martin's Women's Basketball team lost 75-65 in the team's home opener at Marcus Pavilion on Saturday, November 22.

After a tie score at halftime, a big second half from the Sea Lions handed the Saints a 10-point loss in the 2025-26 home opener. The defeat dropped SMU's record to 3-3 on the season.

How It Happened

The Saints shot 42.86% in the first quarter and went 4-4 from three-point range, building an 18-15 advantage early on. Freshman Karyss Lacanlale scored seven points in the opening frame.

Point Loma held an 18-15 advantage in the second quarter, leading to a 33-33 halftime score. The Saints shot 6-14 in the second quarter, but the Sea Lions shot 50% and converted four three-pointers.

The third quarter was a difference maker, as the Saints were out scored 17-10. SMU saw its shooting percentage drop to 5-15 (33%) from the field, as the Sea Lions shot 58.3%.

Entering the fourth quarter down 50-43, the Saints managed to cut the deficit to 56-50 as Laiken Hill hit a three-pointer with 5:53 left in regulation. Point Loma Nazarene answered back with consecutive three-pointers, pushing the lead back to 62-50. The Saints cut the deficit to eight points with just under four minutes remaining, but the Sea Lions pulled away down the stretch and won 75-65.

Top Performers

  • Laiken Hill led the Saints with 16 points, going 4-7 from three-point range.
  • Kiana Rios scored 15 points off 5-7 shooting.
  • Avery Oaster totaled eight points and 12 rebounds.

The Saints will host Evergreen State at 6 p.m. on Nov. 25 at Marcus Pavilion.
