LACEY, Wash. — The Saint Martin's Volleyball team wrapped up the 2025 season with a home victory, defeating the Western Oregon Wolves by a score of 3-0 at Marcus Pavilion on Saturday, November 22.
The win improved SMU's record to 14-12 on the season and 7-11 in GNAC play. Before the game, the Saints honored seniors Zoey Crimin, Emmy Hansen, and Kingsley Mason.
How It Happened
- The Saints started off the match on a 4-0 run, but the Wolves clawed back into the set and cut the SMU lead to 8-7. After the Saints built a narrow 11-9 lead, SMU embarked on a 11-3 run to go ahead 22-12. The Wolves managed two additional points down the stretch, but the Saints put the set away 25-14 off a kill by Emmy Hansen to go up 1-0 in the match. The Saints hit .313% in the first set.
- SMU jumped out to a 4-0 run to start the second set. The second got close midway through, as Western Oregon came within 10-8. SMU responded with an 8-2 run that put the Saints out ahead 18-10. WOU put together a 7-2 run to trim SMU's lead to 20-17 later in the set. Both teams exchanged points down the stretch, as a service error put the Saints up 23-19 with control of serve, prompting a Western Oregon timeout. The Saints rolled through the final stages of the set, winning 25-21 off a kill by Emily Garten. SMU hit .343% in the second frame.
- Saint Martin's started off the third set with a huge 7-1 run, prompting Western Oregon to use a timeout. The Saints extended their lead to 10-2, before a 7-0 run by the Wolves made things interesting, trimming the home team's advantage to 10-9. The set eventually moved to 11-11 midway through. After the frame moved to 14-14, the Saints rattled off a 3-0 run behind a kill from Emmy Hansen, a block by Emmy Hansen and Hanna Ligons, and an ace by Emily Garten. SMU weathered a late push by WOU, but pulled ahead 20-16 after back-to-back points. Both teams exchanged points down the stretch, as SMU's lead later moved to 22-18. Saint Martin's clinched the last two points off kills from Emmy Hansen and Kingsley Mason, winning the frame 25-20 to take the match 3-0.
