LACEY, Wash. — The Saint Martin's Volleyball team lost its home GNAC matchup against Central Washington 3-1 at Marcus Pavilion on Thursday, November 6.
The Saints won the first set, but the Wildcats took a close victory in the second frame and won by double digits in the third and fourth.
How It Happened
- The Saints trailed out of the gates 4-1, but came back and tied the set at 5-5. Both teams exchanged narrow leads throughout the middle of the frame, before Central Washington took a 20-16 lead. The Saints bounced back with a resounding 7-0 run jump out in front 23-20. Saint Martin's continued the momentum and went on to win the set 25-21, behind a .281% team hitting percentage.
- The second set was neck-and-neck just like the first, and once again Central Washington built an early advantage — the Wildcats led 7-3 out of the gates. SMU fought back to later tie the set at 10-10. Each team traded leads, as the set was later tied at 18-18. A 4-0 run by the Wildcats put the Saints behind 22-18, prompting a Saint Martin's timeout. The Saints earned two straight points off a kill by Emmy Hansen and an attack error by CWU, but the Wildcats scored the ensuing three points to win the set 25-20.
- Central Washington built a narrow lead early on in the third set, and built that advantage to 15-7 midway through the frame with a 9-2 run. The lead later grew to double digits, with the Saints trailing 22-12. The Wildcats ran off with a 25-12 win in the third set, hitting .382% in the frame.
- The Saints utilized an 8-2 run early on to build a 10-4 lead, before Central Washington started to close the gap. After the Saints built a 13-8 lead, the Wildcats went on a 13-0 run to take a commanding 21-13 lead. Saint Martin's went on to lose the set 24-15.
