ALAMEDA, CA — Saint Martin's Men's Golf got the spring stretch of their season started over Spring Break as the team competed in the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout in California.

The five-man squad was led by Ramsus Tamker, who started the contest by recording a 70 (-2) through 18 holes. He continued his competitive streak through the next two rounds, maintaining a top-30 finish out of over 100 competitors with a final tally of +1 over par. In his first season at Saint Martin's, Tamker has established himself as one of the team's go-to scorers and has made a positive impact on the program. Tamker would only be outscored by another Saint during the second round, where Gavin Klein would record a 70 (-2) of his own in one of his best rounds of the season. Klein would finish tied for 52nd place individually, along with teammate Carter Sheets, who had a consistent pace throughout all three rounds. The Saints also found production deeper into the lineup, with Davis Sheets standing out in the second round with a 12-stroke improvement from his day-one performance. Jaxon Wallis closed out what was a solid tournament for the Saints with a handful of balanced rounds. Saint Martin's Men's Golf placed 13th out of 17 teams at the Pioneer Shootout.

Head Coach Anne Bahr had thoughts on the team's opening spring contest and how they need to continue to build:

"It was a solid start for the men last week at Corica Park. It's always important to get that first tournament under our belt to figure out the best way to move forward... The biggest thing for our guys right now will be to clean up the little mistakes. I think we're hitting the ball well, but unfortunately had too many soft bogeys. As a team, we had more birdies than Western, Simon Fraser, and Academy of Art who all finished inside the top-9. The ability to make birdies is there, we just need to clean up the bogeys. I'm excited to hit the road with them on Wednesday for our next two tournaments."

SMU Men's Golf will head to Arizona at the Hot Dirt Desert Shootout on Friday, March 21st, with a shotgun time of 7:30 AM. Get more information here.
