CLERMONT, FL — Over Spring Break, the Saints Softball team traveled across the country to face a tough slate of competition against a slew of talented teams. The Saints dominated throughout the weekend, winning seven out of their eight games, and will enter their second week of GNAC play on fire.Â
To start the week, Saints would face the 16th-ranked University of Indianapolis. Saint Martin's would start the game hot, recording four runs during the first inning. The Saints would continue to extend their lead over the next three innings with
Heather Ebner hitting five RBIs, including a two-RBI homer in the second inning. Saint Martin's would end the game winning 11-7. This marks the third ranked win for the team this season. Shortly after their first win, the Saints would take on the Winona State Warriors. Saint Martin's would secure their second win of the day 2-1 with RBIs recorded by
Amanda Peterson and
Jules Detrinidad. Â
Thursday morning, the Saints would fall short to University of Minnesota Duluth. The Saints would get on the board early in the first inning with
Ashley Goodale scoring off of a RBI single from
Haley Agena. Just minutes after,
Jules Detrinidad hit an RBI single allowing Shelbey Lawson to score. Following the first inning, the Saints offense was unable to score. UMD took the lead in the second inning and would take the win over the Saints 5-2. Directly after their loss, the Saints faced Midwestern State. Ebner would record her second home run of the weekend on her first at bat with a bomb to right field. The Mavericks would respond with three runs in the bottom of the first inning and take the lead over the Saints. Goodale sparked the Saints offense in the second inning with a two-RBI double to center field allowing Annalise Griffiths and
Kekai Schultz to score. Entering the top of the 7th inning, the Saints were down 4-5 and were in a must score situation. With the bases loaded,
Haley Agena walked allowing Griffith to score. Following the walk, Detrinidad would hit an RBI single to right field and
Ava Heston Scored. The Saints would stop the Mavericks from scoring and take the win 6-5.Â
Friday Afternoon the Saints faced Lake Erie College and Bemidji State to pick  up their fourth and fifth win of the week. Against LEC, Ebner, Detrinidad, and Heston each recorded three RBIs with nine different players scoring runs. The Saints would take a 16-2 win over Lake Erie. Following their win, the Saints would continue rolling against Bemidji State. The Saints did not give up a single run throughout the game and
Chloe Leverington would pick up her 10th win of the season. Lawson would lead the team with three RBIs, followed by Goodale and Detrinidad each with one apiece. The Saints would take the win over the Beavers 6-0.Â
To close out the tournament, the Saints would play two games on Saturday against Purdue University Northwest and Saint Michael's College. In the first game the Saints would take on Purdue University to earn their first win of the day. After a slow first inning, the Saints' offense would come alive to score five runs in the top of the second. SMU hitters continued to find their offensive rhythm scoring 10 runs in the third. The Saints were led by Agena who earned 5 RBIs and two runs scored. Saint Martin's would end the game with a 18-11 win over Purdue Northwest. In the final game of the tournament, the Saints faced off against Saint Michael's College where they would close out with an impressive 9-1 win. Schultz led the Saints offense with 3 RBI's and Goodale, Detrinidad, Griffith and Dewees would each have one a piece. Sophomore pitcher
Amanda Peterson would pick up her sixth win of the season.Â
The Saints returned from Florida with a 17-7 record (2-2 GNAC) and will face NNU in a four game series in Nampa, Idaho this weekend.
