LACEY, Wash. — The Saint Martin's Baseball team (2-37, 2-21 GNAC) battled through a four-game series against Montana State Billings, picking up a thrilling win in game two to break the team's losing streak and showcasing some of their best play all season in a series loss to the Nighthawks.
The opening game of the series saw the Saints drop a 3-16 decision to the Yellowjackets, but there were still a handful of highlights on the home side.
Hunter Sasaki roped a double for SMU, and
Peter Hollabaugh showed off his speed in an impressive haul on a triple.
Rylen Miyasaki added late production for the Saints with two RBIs, which would help the Saints build offensively into the next contest. The Saints found magic in game two, securing a long-awaited victory in dramatic fashion.
Evan Nicol came up big with two RBIs to help keep the Saints in the fight through the middle innings. With the score knotted at six apiece in the bottom of the seventh inning, it was
Kelton Tom who stepped into the spotlight, crushing a walk-off home run that sent the dugout into a frenzy and gave the Saints a 7-6 win, snapping their losing streak on the first pitch of the bottom of the frame.
Nikki Scott II would pick up the win, closing out an impressive start from
Luke Fulkerson, who went 5.2 total innings.
The following day would see the Saints take on the Yellowjackets in another doubleheader, with MSUB putting the offensive pressure back on. Still, Hollabaugh continued to swing a hot bat, knocking in an RBI and keeping his momentum going from earlier games.
Blaze Wong would also have an incredible relief performance for the Saints, going seven full innings and only giving up two earned runs in the process, but another early MSUB lead would put the game out of reach, 3-15. In the final game of the weekend, the Saints would be defeated by a score of 3-10. Hollabaugh once again stood out with an RBI and Sasaki chipped in with one of his own, continuing to be a consistent presence at the plate.Â
