LACEY, Wash. — The Saint Martin's Saints Softball team (31-12, 16-9 GNAC) put together a dominant four-game sweep over Western Oregon, showcasing explosive offense and timely hits throughout the weekend to close the regular season.
In game one, the Saints set the tone with a 5-1 win, thanks to
Elissa Dewees driving in two key runs. The game's momentum shifted in the fifth inning when
Haley Agena ripped a triple into the gap, bringing home
Jules Detrinidad and energizing the Saints' dugout. With strong defense and smart base running, Saint Martin's held Western Oregon to just one run to seal the opener. Game two was an offensive explosion as the Saints rolled to a 12-4 victory.
Shelby Lawson led the charge with a monster game, driving in four runs and scoring twice herself.
Ashley Goodale also came up big, racking up two hits and driving in four runs. Between games on Saturday, the Saints honored seniors
Chloe Leverington and
Kekai Schultz for their efforts during their time at Saint Martin's. We thank them for their contributions to the program.
In game three the next day, the Saints picked up right where they left off, cruising to a 13-5 win. Lawson again delivered with four more RBIs and a run scored, while
Kaylee Walker impressed with two RBIs and three runs, showing off her all-around talent. Goodale stayed consistent, collecting two hits, two RBIs, and scoring twice. In the final game of the series, Saint Martin's edged out Western Oregon 4-3 in a tighter battle.
Heather Ebner was the difference-maker, driving in all four of the Saints' runs and carrying the offense when it mattered most, driving in the walk-off, game-winning single in the bottom of the seventh to secure the Saints a full series sweep over the Wolves. Dewees contributed again with two runs scored, closing out a standout weekend for her and the team. With the sweep, the Saints made a powerful statement, proving their depth and determination across all four games.
Following the conclusion of the regular season, six Saints were named to the GNAC All-Conference team, headlined by Co-Player of the Year and First Team All-GNAC First Baseman,
Heather Ebner. She is just two hits shy of breaking the conference's single-season record and has put up incredible numbers across the board this season, including 11 home runs, 65 RBIs, and an astounding .441 batting average. Ebner was joined on the First Team by
Chloe Leverington, who has recorded 18 wins on the mound this season, grabbing two over the weekend to close out her time playing at the SMU Softball field. She has tabbed a 3.40 ERA this season and has amassed 76 strikeouts this season. Second Team All-Conference honors were awarded to
Ashley Goodale and
Shelby Lawson for their efforts this year, with Goodale standing out on the base paths and Lawson being one of the offense's main contributors.
