ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The Saint Martin's Volleyball team lost its road GNAC matchup at Alaska Anchorage on Saturday, September 27, losing in three sets.
The Saints stayed in the match with late leads in both the second and third sets, but ultimately the Seawolves came back to win both sets and won in three straight. The loss dropped SMU's record on the season to 8-3 overall and 1-2 in GNAC play.
How It Happened
- Alaska Anchorage started off the match on a 5-0 run, and later extended the lead to 10-5. An 8-0 run later in the set by the Seawolves put the Saints behind 21-8, before ultimately falling 25-10.
- The second set was neck-and-neck, as neither team led by more than a point until Anchorage led 9-7. Saint Martin's stayed within striking distance and eventually retook the lead at 13-12. Later on, a 6-0 run saw SMU pull ahead 19-14. The Seawolves responded with an 8-1 run that put the Saints behind 22-10 — SMU was unable to recapture the lead and eventually lost the set 25-22. The Saints hit .207% in the second set, their best frame of the match.
- Saint Martin's held a narrow lead for much of the third set, until Alaska Anchorage came back to level the frame at 19-19. The Seawolves closed the set on a 7-3 run to win 25-22.
