BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The Saint Martin's Men's Golf team completed the three-round Western Washington Invitational on Sept. 29-30, placing 10th in the team standings with a combined score of +26.
Through rough weather conditions on day one, the Saints improved their team score every round. SMU scored a +12 in the first round and a +8 in the second round, before closing out the final day with a +6.
"As a team we saw some good stuff. It's always a goal of mine to lower our team score each round," Head Coach Anne Bahr said. "Moving forward we need to start better in round one to put us in a better position to close. These guys are talented and I know it will come with time. I'm looking forward to putting in a couple weeks of practice before we leave for Hawaii."
Rasmus Tamker was SMU's top individual golfer, finishing +1 over par. After a +6 in round one, Tamker bounced back with a -1 in round two and a -4 in the final round.
"I'm really impressed with Rasmus's final round," Bahr said. "The course was gettable provided you hit quality shots, and he did just that with four birdies and went bogey free. The goal moving forward will be to post consistent scores each round."
Henry Sanders and Jacob Parker were the next two Saint Martin's golfers, tying for 46th with a score of +8. Parker's best round was a +1 in round two and Sanders' was a +2 in round three.
"Freshman Jacob Parker played very well," Bahr said. "I'm excited about where he's started the year and know that he will only continue to improve."
Gavin Klein placed 62nd at +12, followed by Carter Sheets at +13 and Parker Sawatzky at +14.
Up next, Saint Martin's heads to Hilo, Hawaii for the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate on Oct. 20-21.
