Saints defeat Wildcats behind 31 points from Diego Trejo-Delgado

ELLENSBURG, Wash. — The No. 12 Saint Martin's Men's Basketball team won a gritty road matchup at Central Washington, winning 78-66 in Ellensburg on Thursday, January 22.

After a tied score at halftime, the Saints rode the momentum of a big second half to come away victorious. Diego Trejo-Delgado was stellar for Saint Martin's, tying a career-high 31 points.

The win improved the Saints' record to 16-2 on the season and 8-0 in GNAC play. The win extended the team's program-record winning streak to 13 straight.

How It Happened
First Half

  • After falling behind 5-0 out of the gates, the Saints responded with an 8-0 run to take an 8-5 advantage at the 15:19 mark.
  • Midway through the half, Saint Martin's held a narrow 17-15 lead.
  • Central Washington pulled ahead 14-19 with 6:39 remaining, before the Saints went on a 7-0 run to retake a 26-24 lead with 4:45 left in the first half.
  • The remainder of the first half went back and forth, before each team exchanged free-throws in the final 15 seconds and went into halftime knotted 33-33.

Second Half

  • After the Wildcats took a 35-33 lead out of the half, the Saints went on a 10-0 run that was capped off with a three-pointer by Diego Trejo-Delgado at the 17:34 mark.
  • A three-pointer by Dae'Kwon Watson with 15:27 on the clock put the Saints up 49-40.
  • The Wildcats cut into the Saints' lead and trimmed the team's advantage to 53-52 with 9:34 remaining in regulation.
  • Saint Martin's responded with a 9-2 run, capped off by a Dae'Kwon Watson three-pointer, to go up 62-54 with 6:30 to go.
  • The Saints pulled away down the stretch, as Diego Trejo-Delgado led the scoring efforts. Two free-throws by Trejo-Delgado with 1:43 remaining put the Saints up by double digits (72-61).
