LACEY, Wash. — The Saint Martin's Men's Soccer team lost its home match 3-0 against Western Oregon at Saints Soccer Field on Thursday, October 1.
The match was in reach for the Saints who trailed by one goal for the majority of the competition, before two goals by the Wolves in the final eight minutes put the game away. The loss dropped the Saints' record to 4-6-1 overall and 0-3-0 in GNAC play.
How It Happened
- Saint Martin's totaled two shots in the first 10 minutes, but the Wolves broke the scoreless draw in the 23rd minute — Western Oregon drew a foul in the penalty box, and Archie Dhima converted for the Wolves to put the Saints behind 1-0.
- Connor Leistiko made three saves in the ensuing first half action. Just before halftime, Saint Martin's drew a penalty kick, but Jonathan Wright's shot went off the far post, and the Saints went into the break trailing by one goal.
- In the second half Xander Koenig started off with two shots in the first 11 minutes, one of which was on target.
- Jackson Rotondo picked up his second yellow card in the 61st minute, forcing Saint Martin's to play a man down.
- Saint Martin's totaled six shots in the second half, but were unable to cut into the deficit.
- Western Oregon added two goals in the final 10 minutes, one by Erick Chavez in the 83rd minute and another by Dominic Lemuz in the 87th minute.
